SCIENCE FAIR

Senior Division Competition

All students participating in the Senior Division Science Competition (grades 9-12) must adhere to the rules and guidelines established by both the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF) and the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). All students must complete the ISEF required forms and must obtain the proper approval for their projects.

Projects that involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, and/or potentially hazardous biological agents MUST be approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Scientific Review Committee (SRC) PRIOR TO STARTING THE PROJECT.

The completed forms, including signatures, must be returned to src@engagescience.org.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO APPROVALS AND FORMS

Step 1. Complete the ISEF Rules Wizard to determine which specific forms and approvals are required.

Step 2. All students must complete the following forms: Student Checklist/Research Plan/Project Summary (Form 1A), Approval Form (Form 1B), and Checklist for Adult Sponsor (Form 1).

Step 3. Complete any additional required forms for projects involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, and/or potentially hazardous biological agents. (Refer to the Rule Wizard, or contact Engage! Science for guidance.)

Step 4. Submit your completed forms, including original (not electronic) signatures, to src@engagescience.org. Do not begin your project until you have received approval.

Step 5. Conduct your research project. Be aware that changes in your protocol may necessitate additional IRB/SRC review and approval.

Step 6. Submit your research abstract to Engage! Science at least two weeks before the Homeschool Science Fair. You can find tips for writing a successful abstract on the Science Buddies website.

Step 7. Bring all forms (including your Research Plan/Project Summary, SRC Approval Forms, and abstract) to the Science Fair.
